My approach to counselling

Going to see a counsellor is a big decision, and it's important that you find someone you feel comfortable with. My approach is non-directive, which means I won't tell you what to do or offer solutions. Instead I will support you to find your own answers to life's challenges, so that you are able to move forward in a way that is authentic and meaningful to you - one step at a time.

The counselling relationship is a unique space in which you are offered the care, validation and safety you might not allow yourself in day to day life. You will be accepted, just as you are and I am committed to offering an understanding and supportive environment in which you can explore your feelings and experiences safely.

I will be empathically and compassionately alongside you, helping you notice and connect to yourself and the things that are troubling you. We will use this awareness to become curious about your current way of being, to help you heal, grow and connect with the needs and greater potential of your true self.

"It's the relationship
that heals."
- Irvin Yalom

My philosophy of counselling is built around the idea that "no man is an island". As humans, we exist relationally. We are shaped, changed and wounded by our experiences with, and of, others, and in turn we are healed, nurtured, and transformed through our experiences with, and of, others.

I believe the counselling relationship itself can be healing, therefore it's important to choose the right therapist for you. That's why I offer a free twenty-minute introductory call to help you experience what it might be like for us to work together. Click here to find out more.

Confidentiality in counselling

It's important that you feel able to trust that everything you share in counselling will be kept confidential. I am bound to protecting confidentiality for every client in line with the BACP ethical framework. I also ensure that all personally identifiable data is held, stored and processed in line with UK GDPR data protection legislation. At your first session we will discuss and contract for the terms and limitations of confidentiality and you will have the opportunity to bring any questions and concerns you may have.
